FlY FISHING

The legendary Aurland river

The Aurlandselva river was once ranked one of Europe’s three best sea trout rivers with traditions extending back hundreds of years. The British upper class came here with their rods at the end of the 19th century where they discovered our rivers and made fishing a sport, or should we say art? We are delighted to see that new generations of anglers are discovering the Aurlandselva river.

We have a one-kilometre section at our disposal. ‘Trollsøyna’ and ‘Osen’. We donate a week’s fishing every year to the ‘Wild Salmon Auction’ in order to preserve and strengthen the wild fish stock. All fishing is based on the catch and release principle. And just to make it perfectly clear; we never serve farmed salmon!

Fishing with style

Grandfather Erik Tokvam honoured his river by fishing in a suit and hat. His work clothes were for the fields. He knew exactly when the trout would bite, and at six in the morning he would wake those who wished to accompany him by tying a piece of string around their big toe so as not to wake the others. And of course he always returned with a good catch.

We would love to have the same patience as grandfather Erik and uncle Ola when it came to moving stones and getting big fish to bite. Luckily, we have our own keen anglers who come every year to catch the trout for us – with the same impeccable style, passion and art. That’s what fly fishing is all about isn’t it?

Wild salmon auction

Every year, we donate a week to the ‘Wild Salmon Auction’. Norway, the world’s biggest Atlantic salmon habitat, has already wiped out the salmon in 60 watercourses. Wild salmon is under serious threat due to salmon lice infection and fish escaping from fish farms and the regulation of watercourses. This auction enables us to help save the wild salmon stocks in Norway's rivers. We want our children to be able to enjoy the same biological diversity that we grew up with.

The North Atlantic Wild Salmon Fund is behind Reddvillaksen.no and the ‘Wild Salmon Auction’. This non-profit organisation cooperates with the North Atlantic Salmon Fund (NASF) and is led by wild salmon flag bearer Orri Vigfusson. They provide input and exert pressure on politicians, the media, expert bodies and the aquaculture industry, and visibly and actively campaign to preserve wild salmon. All credit to them! We urge other landowners to donate a small part of the season to a good cause.
