Our
Environmental platform
The green heart
We are passionate about nature and the future. Our vision is for Fjord Norway to become the world’s ‘green heart’ – so we’re starting with our own. Travel and tourism is the world’s third biggest industry, and Fjord Norway is one of the most popular destinations in Norway. This means that we have a major responsibility as a travel and tourism enterprise, and you do too as a guest.
We are a certified Eco-lighthouse and have developed our enterprise based on Norwegian ecotourism principles, which means that tourism shall safeguard nature and culture, and benefit the local community. We want our carbon footprint to be as small as possible, and therefore offer what is known as ‘ soft adventure’ activities where you can go cycling, kayaking, walking or skiing, but at a slightly slower pace.
We take our guests walking in the mountains and in the immediate area, and tell them the history of the people who live here, and those who lived here before us.
We teach fly fishing in the river.
We light a campfire, and prepare and eat our lunch outdoors.
We serve local organic food.
We visit old summer pasture farms and mountain farms to give our guests a real taste of Aurland.
We visit craftsmen and storytellers who know our culture and history.
We have an electric car.
We offer guests bicycles free of charge.
We find old farm roads that enable our guests to explore and enjoy Aurland to the full – on foot.
We have our own kitchen garden, orchard and compost.
We recycle our waste.
We enjoy reusing things, which is reflected in the textiles, architecture and furniture at the farm.
We avoid plastic.
We use local guides.
We ask that guests stay a minimum of two nights.
We act locally but think globally.
We are proud to be one of 22 eco certified businesses in Norway.
We are a certified ECO Lighthouse business. Our reports are available on request.
