In 2005, the Geirangerfjord in the neighboring county of Møre og Romsdal and the Nærøyfjord here in Aurland were inscribed on the World Heritage List as the 'West Norwegian Fjords.' As a UNESCO World Heritage site, we are dedicated to preserving the region’s natural beauty and cultural heritage for future generations. We take great pride in this status, which informs our daily life at 29|2 Aurland.
World Heritage status is the highest international recognition awarded to landscapes, granted only to areas that can demonstrate outstanding cultural and natural values, along with effective management.
Since 2005, National Geographic Traveler has ranked the West Norwegian Fjords as the best-preserved attraction on the World Heritage List twice.
We proudly offer the finest goat cheese, locally brewed beer, handcrafted goat meat sausages, and undeniably the best bread. And let’s not forget the iconic Aurland shoe—after all, Michael Jackson's famous Moonwalk wouldn’t have been the same without the ‘Weejuns’ produced at Aurlandsskoen Skofabrikk, Norway’s last remaining shoe factory. As dedicated members of a network of food artisans, producers, and activity providers, we are committed to showcasing the unique products of the World Heritage area.
Our dear friend Marianne Holme bakes the most exquisite bread, cinnamon buns, and raisin buns at her beloved bakery, Mariannes Bakeri. Every creation is organic and made with love. Marianne firmly believes, 'A bun without raisins is not a bun,' so you're in for a real treat. Rising at five each morning to bake, she never forgets to pick her own organic raspberries in the evening. Truly remarkable, Marianne’s bakery is a cherished gathering place for locals, where they enjoy her creations alongside a perfect Italian espresso.
The Aurland shoe, with its distinctive style, has inspired fashion worldwide. Michael Jackson famously performed his iconic Moonwalk in Weejuns, a variation of the Aurland shoe. Remarkably, this traditional footwear is still crafted right here in Aurland, with custom options available to suit your preferences. With a history of production dating back to the 1930s, the Aurland shoe remains a cornerstone of our community, and we hope its craftsmanship will continue for many generations to come.

At Rein Glass, you'll discover unique, original artworks—perfect for a meaningful and memorable gift for your loved ones.

Our dear friend Gøril is a passionate goat farmer, deeply committed to her beliefs in the value of local food, like blue cheese, and the possibility of sustaining a livelihood as a farmer in Norway. A cherished member of the Aurland community, Gøril not only upholds the goat farming tradition but also brings joy to all on May 17th, leading the National Day parade with her fiddle and charming everyone with her accordion performances."
